Best Water Purifier for Home in India (2026): 7 Picks by Water Source

Most people buy a water purifier backwards. They pick the one with the most letters on the box, RO+UV+UF+Copper+Alkaline, when the first question should be what’s coming out of their tap. If you get soft municipal water, an RO purifier throws away litres of water to remove salts you don’t have. If you’re on borewell or tanker water with high dissolved solids, a UV-only purifier will kill germs and leave everything else in.

The test that settles it costs about ₹200: a TDS meter. Dip it in a glass of tap water. Under about 200 mg/L, a UV+UF purifier is usually enough. Above about 500, you need RO. In between, it depends on taste and hardness. A plumber or the brand’s technician can test it during the free demo too.

We read the Amazon.in listings and owner-review summaries for the best-selling purifiers and picked seven, grouped by the water they suit.

Short answer: for borewell, tanker or mixed water, buy the Aquaguard Delight Aquasaver RO+UV+UF. It handles TDS up to 2,000, claims 60% better water recovery than older RO units, and Aquaguard claims the widest service network. If you hate service calls, the Urban Company Native M1 needs none for two years. For soft municipal water under 200 TDS, the AO Smith X2 UV+UF purifies without wasting water.

1. Aquaguard Delight Aquasaver RO+UV+UF — best overall

Check Aquaguard Delight Aquasaver price on Amazon →

Who it’s for: Most homes, especially those on borewell or tanker water, or a supply that changes between seasons.

It handles input water up to 2,000 mg/L TDS through a 9-stage RO+UV+UF system with a mineraliser, and adds a mega sediment filter in front to stop muddy tanker water choking the rest. Aquaguard claims 60% higher water recovery than its older RO units, which means less reject water down the drain. You get a 6.2-litre tank, about 20 litres an hour, and Aquaguard’s service plan: free installation, two free cleaning visits and unlimited repair visits in the first year. Aquaguard says it services 19,000+ pin codes, the widest reach here.

What we like

  • Works on any water source, so you’re covered if you move or the supply changes
  • Better water recovery than typical RO
  • Service reach in smaller towns

Watch out for

  • Some owners report the RO membrane failing within six months, and service experiences are mixed.
  • “2-year filter life” is Aquaguard’s claim. With muddy or very hard water, expect earlier changes.
  • 6.2 L storage is fine for a family of four but runs low during long power cuts.

Verdict: The safe all-rounder. If you know your water is soft municipal supply, the AO Smith X2 does the job without wasting water.

2. Urban Company Native M1 — no service visits for two years

Check Native M1 price on Amazon →

Who it’s for: People who are tired of AMC calls, technicians who don’t turn up, and surprise filter bills.

Native’s pitch is simple. The filters are rated to last two full years with no service, and the 2-year warranty is unconditional: filters, membrane and electrical parts are covered whatever your input water or usage. After two years, a refresh with all filters, servicing and another two years of warranty costs ₹5,499, according to the listing. Inside it’s a 10-stage RO+UV purifier with copper and an alkaline booster, an 8-litre tank and free installation by Urban Company. It’s #2 in its Amazon.in purifier category, with 4.4★ from over 8,000 owners.

What we like

  • Running cost known in advance: about ₹2,750 a year after the first two years
  • Unconditional warranty, including filters
  • 8 L tank, the biggest among the electric purifiers here

Watch out for

  • The highest upfront price here.
  • Some owners say it stopped working; you’re relying on Urban Company’s service when it does.
  • Installation may need extra pressure equipment in some homes, per the listing.
  • Max input TDS isn’t stated.

Verdict: Worth the higher price if you value never chasing a technician. If you’re happy with an annual service, the Aquaguard costs less upfront.

3. KENT Grand RO — highest-rated RO, with TDS control

Check KENT Grand price on Amazon →

Who it’s for: Homes on hard or salty water who want to set how many minerals stay in.

KENT’s TDS controller lets the technician blend some filtered water back in, so RO water doesn’t taste flat. It purifies through RO+UF, and a UV LED in the storage tank keeps the stored water from growing bacteria while it sits. You get a 7.5-litre tank, 20 litres an hour, a water-level indicator and a 1-year warranty. It has the joint-highest rating here, 4.4★ from over 8,400 owners.

What we like

  • TDS control, useful if RO water tastes too flat to you
  • UV inside the tank, not just in the line
  • High rating from a large owner base

Watch out for

  • Some owners mention the motor not working properly.
  • The listing says “Installation Type: Under Sink”; KENT Grand units are usually wall-mounted. Ask the installer.
  • Only 1 year of warranty, and KENT’s AMC is a separate cost.

Verdict: A good RO for hard water if you want control over taste. For the widest service network, choose Aquaguard.

4. Aquaguard Sure Delight NXT RO+UV — best under ₹8,500

Check Aquaguard Sure Delight NXT price on Amazon →

Who it’s for: Budget buyers on borewell or tanker water who want Aquaguard’s service.

This is Aquaguard’s simpler RO+UV unit: countertop, 6 litres, TDS up to 2,000, a cartridge rated for 1 year or 6,000 litres, and LED alerts for tank full, filter life and service due. The box includes a 1-year comprehensive warranty (consumables excluded), free installation, one free maintenance visit and unlimited repair visits in year one.

What we like

  • Aquaguard’s service in the ₹7,500–8,500 band
  • Countertop, so no drilling in a rented flat

Watch out for

  • No UF stage and no mineraliser, unlike the Aquasaver.
  • Customer service gets mixed reviews.
  • Its ratings are shared with the cheaper RO+MC model (B0CW62435R). That one has no UV and is meant only for water above 200 TDS.

Verdict: The budget RO to buy if you rent or don’t want to drill. Pay about ₹2,000 more for the Aquasaver if you can.

5. Livpure GLO PRO++ — bigger tank on a budget

Check Livpure GLO PRO++ price on Amazon →

Who it’s for: Families who want a 7-litre tank and RO+UV+UF for under ₹9,000.

It’s the most-rated purifier here, with over 15,000 ratings. You get 7-stage RO+UV+UF purification with an anti-scalant cartridge for hard water, a 7-litre tank, TDS up to 2,000, free installation and a 1-year warranty.

What we like

  • RO, UV and UF together in the ₹8,000–9,000 band
  • Bigger tank than the Aquaguards

Watch out for

  • Leakage and filters breaking within three months come up in the review summary, along with unresponsive support. That’s the weakest service record here.
  • Owners disagree on whether it’s worth buying.

Verdict: Fine if Livpure has good service in your area. Ask neighbours before ordering; otherwise the Aquaguard NXT is the safer budget pick.

6. AO Smith X2 UV+UF — for municipal water, no RO waste

Check AO Smith X2 price on Amazon →

Who it’s for: Homes on treated municipal water with TDS under 200 and hardness under 120 ppm.

The X2 has no RO membrane, so it doesn’t send water down the drain and doesn’t strip minerals. It uses UV to kill bacteria and viruses and UF to filter out fine particles and cysts. You get 30 litres an hour, a digital display and a 5-litre tank, using only 28 watts. AO Smith gives 1 year on electrical and functional parts, excluding the UV lamp and filters.

What we like

  • Zero reject water, which matters in cities with water shortages
  • Keeps the minerals already in your water
  • Fast 30 L/h flow

Watch out for

  • Not suitable for borewell or tanker water, says AO Smith. Test your TDS first.
  • 5 L storage is small for a big family, as several owners note.
  • About ₹10,000 for a UV purifier is on the high side.

Verdict: The right purifier if your TDS is genuinely low. If you’re not sure, the Aquasaver covers every case.

7. Pureit Classic 23 L — no electricity needed

Check Pureit Classic price on Amazon →

Who it’s for: Homes with long power cuts, renters, and small families on low-TDS municipal water.

A gravity purifier: you pour about 9 litres into the top, and it trickles through activated carbon and Pureit’s germ-kill processor into a 23-litre tank. There’s no electricity and no tap connection. The kit lasts 3,000 litres, and the purifier stops the flow when the kit runs out, so you can’t drink unfiltered water by mistake. A replacement kit costs about ₹1,100, which works out to under 40 paise a litre.

What we like

  • Works through any power cut
  • About a third of the price of the cheapest electric RO
  • The automatic cut-off when the filter expires

Watch out for

  • It doesn’t reduce TDS. Hard or salty borewell water stays hard.
  • Some owners report the lower tank cracking or leaking.
  • You have to refill it by hand every day.

Verdict: The best backup or budget purifier for low-TDS water. It’s no substitute for RO on borewell water.

RO, UV or UF: which do you need?

RO (reverse osmosis) pushes water through a membrane that removes dissolved salts, heavy metals and fluoride. You need it if your TDS is above about 500 or your water tastes salty. The downside: many RO units send more water down the drain than they give you to drink. Collect the reject water for mopping or plants.

UV (ultraviolet) kills bacteria and viruses. It doesn’t remove dissolved salts or chemicals, and the water must be clear for UV to work.

UF (ultrafiltration) filters out fine particles, cysts and some bacteria without electricity. It’s usually paired with UV.

Mineraliser, copper, alkaline: these add minerals back after RO. They’re nice to have, but they don’t make water safer.

How to choose a water purifier in India

1. Test your TDS first

A ₹200 TDS meter answers the biggest question. Under 200: UV+UF. Above 500: RO. In between: RO with TDS control, or UV if you like the taste.

2. Plan for running costs, not just the price

Filters and membranes need replacing every year or so, and service visits cost extra once the free year is over. Ask for the AMC price before you buy. The Native M1 is the only pick here with a published two-year running cost.

3. Check service in your pin code

A purifier is only as good as the technician who services it. Aquaguard claims the widest network, over 19,000 pin codes. Whatever the brand, check its app or website for your pin code.

4. Storage for power cuts

Electric purifiers only purify when there’s power. A 7–8 L tank gets a family of four through a few hours. For long cuts, keep a gravity purifier as backup.

5. Wall or countertop

Wall-mounted units save counter space but need drilling. In a rented flat, a countertop model avoids that conversation with your landlord.

How we chose

We started from the Amazon.in Best Sellers list for water purifiers and searched the main brands (Aquaguard, KENT, Pureit, Livpure, AO Smith, Native) on 23 October 2026. We kept purifiers that were in stock with a live price that day. We compared specs from each listing: technology, input TDS limit, storage, flow and what the warranty covers. Then we read Amazon’s owner-review summaries for repeated problems, such as leaks, membrane failures and service delays. We haven’t installed these purifiers ourselves, so our opinions rest on specs and owner reports. No brand paid to be included. Read our full method →

FAQs

Which is the best water purifier for home in India? For most homes, the Aquaguard Delight Aquasaver RO+UV+UF. It handles TDS up to 2,000, recovers more water than older RO units, and Aquaguard has the widest service network.

Do I need RO for municipal water? Usually not, if the TDS is under 200. A UV+UF purifier like the AO Smith X2 is enough and wastes no water. Test with a TDS meter first.

What TDS is good for drinking water? India’s drinking water standard (BIS IS 10500) sets 500 mg/L as the acceptable limit. Most people find water between about 100 and 300 tastes best.

How often should RO filters be changed? Typically once a year, or sooner with muddy or very hard water. The membrane usually lasts longer. Your purifier’s filter-life alert will tell you.

Is a gravity purifier safe? For low-TDS municipal water, a gravity purifier like the Pureit Classic removes germs. It doesn’t remove dissolved salts, so it’s not enough for hard borewell water.
