Best Electric Kettle in India (2026): 7 Picks for Home, Office and Hostel

An electric kettle is the cheapest appliance in most Indian kitchens, and the one people replace most often. A ₹600 kettle that dies in eight months isn’t a bargain. The things that decide whether yours lasts are boring ones: what the inside is made of, the thermostat that switches it off, and whether the outside gets hot enough to burn a child’s hand.
We read the Amazon.in best-seller listings for electric kettles and the owner-review summaries, and picked seven: one to buy for the long run, four budget kettles, a cooking kettle for hostels and a tiny one for the office or travel.
Short answer: buy the Havells Aqua Plus 1.2 L. It’s 304 stainless steel inside, so the water never touches plastic, the double wall stays cool while it boils, it has a Strix thermostat and dry-boil protection, and the warranty is 2 years, in the ₹1,800–2,100 band. On a ₹700 budget, the Milton Rapid 1.8 L is Amazon.in’s best seller. For a hostel room where you’ll also cook Maggi and boil eggs, the Pigeon Kessel.

1. Havells Aqua Plus 1.2 L — best overall
Check Havells Aqua Plus price on Amazon →
Who it’s for: Families with small children, and anyone who wants to buy one kettle and forget about it.
Three things set it apart. The inside is SS304 stainless steel, so boiling water never sits against plastic. The double wall keeps the outside cool while the water boils, which matters in a kitchen where a child can reach the counter. And it uses a Strix controller, a thermostat brand from the UK used in many premium kettles, with auto shut-off, dry-boil protection and a thermal cut-out. The wide mouth makes descaling easy, and the 360° base works for left- and right-handers. 2-year warranty. It has the highest rating here: 4.4★ from over 46,000 owners.
What we like
- 304 steel inside, cool outside, a proper thermostat
- Twice the warranty of the budget kettles
- A huge, settled owner base
Watch out for
- 1.2 L is small for a big family’s tea. Boil twice, or choose a 1.5 L kettle.
- Some owners say the lid broke within weeks, and some find the outside still gets warm.
- The cord gets criticism for being short.
Verdict: The kettle to buy if you can spend around ₹2,000. If ₹700 is the limit, the Milton Rapid does the basics.
2. Milton Rapid 1.8 L — best budget

Who it’s for: Families, PGs and students who want a big kettle for as little as possible.
It’s the #1 electric kettle on Amazon.in right now, and one of the top five sellers in all of Home & Kitchen. You get 1.8 litres, the biggest here, a 1,500 W element, a steel body, a wide mouth, auto shut-off with dry-boil protection and a 360° base. 1-year warranty.
What we like
- 1.8 L, enough for a family’s morning tea in one go
- Around ₹600
- Auto shut-off and dry-boil protection
Watch out for
- The steel body gets hot. Keep it out of children’s reach.
- Some owners report rust after a couple of months. Dry it after use and descale regularly.
- Its ratings are shared with the Cool Touch model below.
Verdict: The best kettle for the money. If kids are around, spend more on a cool-touch kettle.
3. Milton Rapid Cool Touch 1.5 L — cool-touch body under ₹1,500
Check Milton Rapid Cool Touch price on Amazon →
Who it’s for: People who want the Havells’s safety features for less.
Milton’s step-up kettle has a 304 stainless steel inner body with a cool-touch outer body, 1.5 litres, 1,350 W, auto shut-off, dry-heat protection and a wide mouth. 1-year warranty.
What we like
- 304 steel inside and a cool outside for about ₹600 less than the Havells
- 1.5 L, a better size for families
Watch out for
- Only 1 year of warranty.
- Its ratings are pooled with the cheaper Milton Rapid, so there’s less evidence for this model specifically.
- Some owners say the base doesn’t heat evenly.
Verdict: A sensible middle choice. For about ₹600 more, the Havells adds a year of warranty and a long track record.
4. Prestige PKOSS 1.5 L — most-rated budget kettle
Check Prestige PKOSS price on Amazon →
Who it’s for: Budget buyers who prefer a big kitchen brand with service centres in most towns.
With over 80,000 ratings, it’s the most-reviewed kettle here. It has a 1.5-litre steel body, a stainless steel lid (so steam doesn’t condense on plastic), a cool-touch handle and lid, a 1,350 W concealed element, auto cut-off and dry-boil protection, a single-touch lid lock and a cord winder in the base. 1-year warranty.
What we like
- Steel lid, not just a steel body
- Prestige’s service network
Watch out for
- 3.9★. “Stopped working” and “broke within a month” come up repeatedly in the review summary.
- The body gets hot; only the handle and lid stay cool.
Verdict: Fine if you want Prestige’s service. On reviews alone, the Milton Rapid looks the safer budget buy.
5. Milton Euroline Go 1.2 L — for small households
Check Milton Euroline Go price on Amazon →
Who it’s for: Couples and single people who boil a litre at a time.
A compact 1.2-litre steel kettle at 1,350 W, with a power light, on-off button, auto shut-off, a cool handle, a wide hinged lid and a 360° base. It’s the #3 kettle on Amazon.in. One owner times a litre at about four minutes. 1-year warranty.
What we like
- Small and light, at 0.9 kg
- Wide hinged lid, easy to descale
Watch out for
- The cord is too short, the most consistent complaint.
- Some owners report the steel bottom cracking within three months, and auto shut-off failing.
Verdict: A good small kettle, but the Milton Rapid 1.8 L costs about the same and holds more.
6. Pigeon Kessel multipurpose — for hostels
Check Pigeon Kessel price on Amazon →
Who it’s for: Students in hostels and PGs who need to heat milk, boil eggs and cook instant noodles, not just boil water.
This is a different appliance: a 600 W open-top kettle you can cook in, with a 1.2-litre pot, a power indicator, a 360° base and a cool-touch handle and lid knob. It’s the #4 kettle on Amazon.in. Owners use it for eggs, milk, oats, soup and Maggi. 1-year warranty.
What we like
- Cooks simple food, not just water
- 600 W runs on most hostel sockets (check your hostel’s rules)
Watch out for
- 3.8★. Owners report the handle breaking within a month and the base heating unevenly.
- The steel is thin, and it’s slow because it’s only 600 W.
- The spec table lists borosilicate glass while the title says steel. Check the photos.
- Don’t leave milk unattended: it boils over like it would on a stove.
Verdict: The hostel kettle. For tea and coffee at home, a normal kettle is faster and safer.
7. Lifelong 0.8 L with 2 cups — for the office and travel
Check Lifelong 0.8 L kettle price on Amazon →
Who it’s for: Office desks, small cabins and people who travel with a kettle.
A small 0.8-litre steel kettle with a double wall and cool-touch body, a water-level indicator, auto shut-off and overheat protection, and two cups packed inside. It’s 600 W, so it’s gentle on office sockets. Lifelong claims 2–4 minutes to boil.
What we like
- Double wall at this price
- Two cups included, so it’s a complete tea kit
Watch out for
- Some owners say it takes up to 20 minutes to boil, which is far from the claim.
- The lid gets mixed reviews.
- Only 586 ratings, and the warranty isn’t stated on the listing.
Verdict: A neat desk kettle. For home use, get a 1.5 L kettle.
How to choose an electric kettle in India
1. Look at the inside, not the outside
304 stainless steel inside (Havells, Milton Cool Touch) is the safest choice for daily boiling. Many cheap kettles have a steel body but plastic around the lid or inside the spout.
2. Cool-touch or not
A single-wall steel kettle gets as hot as the water inside it. If children can reach the counter, a double-wall cool-touch kettle is worth the extra few hundred rupees.
3. Size
- 0.8–1.2 L: one or two people.
- 1.5 L: a family of three or four.
- 1.8 L: big families and PGs.
4. Safety switches
Auto shut-off when it boils, and dry-boil protection if you switch it on empty. Most picks here list both; the Pigeon Kessel’s listing mentions neither, so don’t leave it unattended.
5. Hard water
In hard-water cities, white scale builds up on the base within weeks. Boil a solution of water and vinegar (or lemon), leave it for an hour, and rinse. Do this monthly, and the kettle boils faster and lasts longer.
6. Wattage
1,500 W boils faster but needs a proper socket. 600 W kettles are slow, but they’re safer on weak hostel or office wiring.
How we chose
We started from the Amazon.in Best Sellers list for electric kettles on 24 October 2026, and kept kettles that were in stock with a live price that day. One kettle showing “only 1 left” was left out. We compared specs from each listing: capacity, wattage, inside material, cool-touch body, safety cut-offs and warranty. Where a listing contradicts itself, we’ve said so. Then we read Amazon’s owner-review summaries for repeated problems, such as broken lids, rust and failed cut-offs. We haven’t used these kettles ourselves, so our opinions rest on specs and owner reports. No brand paid to be included. Read our full method →
FAQs
Which is the best electric kettle in India? For most homes, the Havells Aqua Plus 1.2 L: 304 steel inside, a cool double wall, a Strix thermostat and a 2-year warranty, in the ₹1,800–2,100 band.
Which is the best budget electric kettle? The Milton Rapid 1.8 L, the #1 seller on Amazon.in, in the ₹550–700 band. The body gets hot, so keep it away from children.
Is it safe to boil milk in an electric kettle? Not in a normal kettle; milk burns onto the element and can boil over into the base. Use a multipurpose kettle like the Pigeon Kessel, and watch it.
How do I remove white deposits from my kettle? Boil water with a few spoons of vinegar or lemon juice, leave it for an hour, then rinse well. Do it monthly in hard-water areas.
How much electricity does a kettle use? Very little per use. A 1,500 W kettle running for about four minutes uses roughly 0.1 unit.
