Best Wet Grinder in India (2026): 6 Picks for Soft Idlis and Crisp Dosas

A mixer grinder can make idli batter. A wet grinder makes better idli batter. Its stones turn slowly and grind the soaked rice and urad dal for half an hour or more without heating them, and that cooler, airier batter ferments better. If you make idli or dosa batter more than once a week, a wet grinder pays for itself in softer idlis and in a mixer that isn’t worn out in two years.
The catch is that wet grinders are big, heavy, and spend most of the week on the counter or in a cupboard. So size, height and the warranty matter as much as the motor. We read the Amazon.in listings and owner-review summaries for the best-sellers and picked six.
Short answer: buy the Ultra Grind+ Gold 2L. Ultra’s patented conical stones grind with less heat, the steel drum doubles as a batter container, and it has a 5-year warranty, in the ₹8,800–9,800 band. On a ₹5,000 budget, the Butterfly Rhino Plus comes with an atta kneader and coconut scraper. If you grind big batches and hate lifting a full drum, get a tilting model like the Ponmani Power Plus 3L.

1. Ultra Grind+ Gold 2L — best overall
Check Ultra Grind+ Gold price on Amazon →
Who it’s for: Families of three to five who make batter every week.
Ultra (from the Coimbatore company Elgi) uses patented conical stones. A cone grinds against the drum along its whole length, which Ultra says means less heat, and less heat is what you want for fermentation. The 2-litre drum is AISI 304 stainless steel and lifts out, so you can ferment and store the batter in the same vessel and wash one thing instead of two. It runs on a 150 W motor. 5-year warranty, the longest here alongside the other Ultras. Owners report dosa batter in about 45 minutes.
What we like
- Conical stones and a steel drum you can ferment in
- 5-year warranty from a company with its own service centres
- Over 6,600 ratings at 4.2★
Watch out for
- 48.5 cm tall. Measure the gap under your wall cabinets before ordering.
- The atta kneader and coconut scraper are sold separately.
- Some owners say it broke within months; opinions on cleaning are split.
Verdict: The one to buy for most South Indian kitchens. On a tight budget, the Butterfly Rhino Plus does the job for about half.
2. Butterfly Rhino Plus 2L — best budget, with attachments
Check Butterfly Rhino Plus price on Amazon →
Who it’s for: First-time buyers who want a wet grinder for around ₹5,000 and like having extras in the box.
Butterfly’s Rhino is laid out sideways, with the motor next to the drum rather than under it, so it stands only about 29 cm tall and slides under almost any cabinet. You get a 2-litre detachable steel drum, dual cylindrical stones, a transparent lid, and both an atta kneader and a coconut scraper in the box. 2-year warranty. Owners report 1.5 litres of batter in 20–30 minutes.
What we like
- About half the price of the Ultras
- Low enough to store under a cabinet
- Atta kneader and coconut scraper included
Watch out for
- The lowest rating here, 3.9★. Some owners say rice doesn’t grind smoothly, and stones and motor covers break.
- Noise is a common complaint.
- The title says 260 W; the bullets and spec table say 150 W.
Verdict: Good value if you want to try a wet grinder. If you’ll grind every week for years, the Ultra’s longer warranty is worth the extra.
3. Ultra Mini — for couples and small families
Check Ultra Mini price on Amazon →
Who it’s for: Couples and families of up to four, especially in small kitchens.
A smaller version of the Grind+: conical stones, an AISI 304 steel drum for grinding, storing and kneading atta, an 85 W motor and the same 5-year warranty. It weighs 8.8 kg, which matters if you store it in a cupboard and lift it out every week. Owners say it handles up to four cups of rice per batch. It has the highest rating here: 4.4★.
What we like
- Light and compact at 41 cm tall
- Highest-rated wet grinder here
- 5-year warranty
Watch out for
- Small drum. The title says 1.5 L; the bullets say 1.25 L. Either way, it’s not for big batches.
- Several owners say the lid-release button broke within a month.
- Costs almost as much as the bigger Grind+.
Verdict: The pick for small households that grind often. For four or more people, the Grind+ 2L costs little more.
4. Ultra Bigg+ 2.5L — for bigger families
Check Ultra Bigg+ price on Amazon →
Who it’s for: Joint families and homes that make batter for a week at a time.
The same conical-stone design as the Grind+, with a 2.5-litre drum and the same 150 W motor and 5-year warranty.
What we like
- Extra half-litre for big batches
- Same steel drum and warranty as the Grind+
Watch out for
- 52.7 cm tall and 14.6 kg, the tallest table-top here.
- Some owners say it takes up to an hour for batter, report trouble starting it, and mention the drum lock and noise.
- Some say it broke within five months.
Verdict: Worth it only if 2 litres is genuinely too small. For bigger batches still, a tilting grinder is easier to empty.
5. Ponmani Power Plus 3L (tilting) — for big batches
Check Ponmani Power Plus price on Amazon →
Who it’s for: Large families, home caterers and anyone who finds lifting a full drum hard on the wrists.
A tilting grinder tips forward so you pour the batter straight into a container instead of lifting out a heavy drum full of wet batter. The Ponmani has a 3-litre drum, the biggest here, high-density granite stones and a 225 W copper motor. Ponmani claims grinding in 10–20 minutes, and owners say it’s fast and smooth, with one grinding 2 kg of flour within an hour.
What we like
- Tilting, so no lifting a full drum
- Biggest drum and most powerful motor here
- Owners say it’s quick
Watch out for
- 21.5 kg and 58 cm tall. It lives on the counter, not in a cupboard.
- Warranty isn’t stated on the listing. Ask the seller.
- Some owners report the stone chipping at the sides. Opinions on noise are split.
Verdict: The pick for big households. For a family of four, a 2-litre table-top is easier to live with.
6. Sowbaghya Shree+ 2L (tilting) — tilting with attachments under ₹7,500
Check Sowbaghya Shree+ price on Amazon →
Who it’s for: People who want the convenience of tilting without the size of a 3-litre machine.
Sowbaghya makes a 2-litre tilting grinder with a coconut scraper and atta kneader included and a 2-year warranty. It weighs 16 kg and stands 52 cm tall.
What we like
- Tilting at a lower price than most
- Both attachments in the box
Watch out for
- Only 150 ratings, and no review summary yet, so there’s little owner evidence.
- Motor wattage and stone type aren’t stated.
Verdict: A reasonable tilting option if the Ponmani is too big. With so few reviews, it’s a slightly riskier buy.
Table-top vs tilting
Table-top grinders have a drum you lift out. They’re smaller, lighter and cheaper, and the drum doubles as a storage vessel. The downside is lifting 2 litres of wet batter plus a steel drum.
Tilting grinders tip forward to pour. They’re heavier and taller and usually stay on the counter, but they’re easier on your wrists and better for big batches.
For most families of four, a 2-litre table-top is enough.
How to choose a wet grinder in India
1. Measure the height under your cabinets
Wet grinders range from 29 cm (Butterfly Rhino, laid out sideways) to 58 cm (Ponmani tilting). Many kitchens have under 50 cm between the counter and the wall cabinets. Measure before you buy.
2. Drum size by family
- 1.25–1.5 L: two to four people.
- 2 L: four to six people, the usual choice.
- 2.5–3 L: big families, weekly batches, or selling batter.
3. Stones
Conical stones (Ultra) grind along a cone and claim less heat. Cylindrical stones (Butterfly) are the traditional design and work well. Either way, make sure replacement stones and belts are available in your city.
4. Warranty and service
Ultra gives 5 years; Butterfly and Sowbaghya give 2. A wet grinder should last a decade, so local service matters. Check the brand’s service centre list for your city before ordering.
5. Attachments
An atta kneader and coconut scraper are handy if you’ll use them. Butterfly and Sowbaghya include them; Ultra sells them separately.
How we chose
We started from the Amazon.in Best Sellers list for wet grinders on 23 October 2026, plus searches for tilting models, and kept grinders that were in stock with a live price that day. Two of the best-selling Butterfly models showed no buy-box price, so we left them out. We compared specs from each listing: drum size, motor, stones, weight, height, warranty and attachments. Where a listing contradicts itself, we’ve said so. Then we read Amazon’s owner-review summaries for repeated problems, such as slow grinding, broken stones and noise. We haven’t used these grinders ourselves, so our opinions rest on specs and owner reports. No brand paid to be included. Read our full method →
FAQs
Which is the best wet grinder in India? For most families, the Ultra Grind+ Gold 2L: conical stones, a steel drum you can ferment in, and a 5-year warranty, in the ₹8,800–9,800 band.
Wet grinder or mixer grinder for idli batter? A wet grinder makes softer, airier batter because it grinds slowly without heating it. A mixer grinder is faster and fine for occasional batter. See our mixer grinder guide.
Ultra or Butterfly? Ultra for a longer warranty (5 years) and conical stones. Butterfly for a lower price and attachments in the box, with a 2-year warranty.
Is a tilting wet grinder better? For big batches, yes, because you pour instead of lifting the drum. For a family of four, a 2-litre table-top is smaller and easier to store.
How much rice can a 2-litre wet grinder handle? Roughly enough for a family of four to five for a few days. Don’t fill the drum past the line, because batter needs room to move.
