Personal Care Appliance Guides for India (2026)

Personal care gadgets are cheap enough that most people buy them on impulse, and that’s why so many end up in a drawer. A trimmer whose battery fades in a year, a hair dryer that trips the bathroom socket, a straightener that leaves frizz the moment you step out into August humidity. In India a few things decide whether a ₹1,000 gadget lasts: how it copes with damp bathrooms and hard water, whether it charges over USB-C during a power cut, and whether the brand can actually repair it in your city.

This page sorts out what to look for in each category and links to our detailed guides as they go live.

Start with what you’ll use every week

If you want to…Look forTypical spend
Keep a beard or stubble neatA beard trimmer with fine length steps and 60+ min runtime₹500–1,200
Trim body hair safelyA body groomer with a skin guard and a showerproof body₹1,500–2,500
Dry hair faster without frizzA 1,200–2,000 W dryer with a cool shot and heat settings₹1,000–3,000
Straighten or smooth hairCeramic or keratin plates with adjustable temperature₹1,200–3,500
Brush better than by handA rechargeable toothbrush with a 2-minute timer₹1,500–4,000

If you’re unsure, buy the cheaper option from a brand with service in your city. A mid-range model you can get repaired is worth more than a premium one you can’t.

Our guides

Trimmers and body groomers

The most bought personal care appliance in India, and the easiest one to get wrong. What matters is the length range, real battery runtime, the charging port and the warranty, not the number of attachments in the box.

Hair dryers and straighteners

Electric toothbrushes

The timer does more for your teeth than the motor. After that, it comes down to battery life, the warranty and what replacement heads cost.

What to look for, category by category

Trimmers

Match the length range to your beard first. Stubble needs fine steps between 0.5 and 3 mm; a fuller beard needs combs that reach 15–20 mm. After that, check the battery. Lithium-ion holds up over the years and charges in one to two hours, while older Ni-MH packs can take eight. USB-C means you can charge from a phone charger or power bank when the power’s out. For body hair, buy a dedicated body groomer with a skin guard rather than relying on an all-in-one kit’s blade. Our trimmer guide has the specifics.

Hair dryers

Wattage decides speed: 1,200 W is fine for short hair, and 1,800–2,000 W saves real time on long or thick hair. Look for at least two heat settings and a cool-shot button, which sets the style and is gentler on hair you colour. Check the plug. Many dryers ship with a 6 A two-pin plug, and older bathroom sockets can be loose or overloaded, so use a socket that grips firmly. Don’t leave a dryer plugged in near the sink.

Hair straighteners

Adjustable temperature is the one feature to insist on. Fine or coloured hair needs lower heat, around 150–180 °C, and thick or coarse hair may need more. Ceramic or keratin-coated plates spread heat more evenly than bare metal. In humid months, straightened hair frizzes back quickly, so a heat-protect spray matters more than a higher temperature. Auto shut-off is worth having.

Electric toothbrushes

A two-minute timer with 30-second quadrant alerts does most of the good. Pressure sensors help if you brush hard. Before buying, check what replacement heads cost and whether they’re sold on Amazon.in, since you’ll replace one every three months. In hard-water areas, rinse and dry the handle base so scale doesn’t build up around the charger. Our electric toothbrush guide compares Oral-B and AGARO.

Things every personal care gadget should get right in India

Humidity. Bathrooms in coastal cities stay damp for hours. Store trimmers and toothbrush handles outside the shower area unless they’re rated IPX7 or “100% showerproof”, and let them dry with the cap off.

Hard water. Scale builds up on blades, combs and brush heads. Rinse, shake dry and brush out hair after each use. A drop of blade oil every few weeks helps on trimmers that aren’t sold as oil-free.

Voltage and power cuts. Most corded hair tools are rated for 220–240 V, which matches Indian supply. Cordless tools with USB-C are the easiest to keep charged during outages, since a power bank will do.

Service. Philips, Havells and a few others have service centres in most cities. Many smaller brands handle claims through the Amazon seller. Register the warranty the day the product arrives and keep the invoice.

Common questions

What is the best trimmer for men in India? For most men, a Philips beard trimmer in the ₹700–900 band with 10 length settings and up to 3 years of warranty. Our trimmer guide covers longer beards, body grooming and premium kits.

How many watts should a hair dryer have? About 1,200 W for short hair and 1,800–2,000 W for long or thick hair. More wattage dries faster but runs hotter, so use the lower setting where you can.

Is an electric toothbrush better than a manual one? For most people, yes, mainly because the timer makes you brush for the full two minutes. A good manual technique still works if you’re disciplined about time.

Does hard water damage trimmers and toothbrushes? It doesn’t break them quickly, but scale builds up on blades and charging contacts. Rinse and dry after use, and wipe the charging base now and then.
